This game was so fun. but sometimes the jump delay got a little annoying.

I was feeling that too. You could try check to see if the player input the jump button within a certain time limit of hitting the ground to queue up another jump. And try experimenting with adding a little bit of momentum to the player. But yeah, nice work.
